62 – Super Chelly Chelly Songs

There are a plethora of live shows to cover this week on Riot Act, as Steve went to the rather morbid Static-X, Soil and Wednesday 13 in London whilst Remfry went to see Emma Ruth Rundle, Jo Quail in Bristol and Lingua Ignota in London. He also hot-footed it off to Cologne to report back from the 15th edition of Euroblast Festival where he saw a strong contender for worst gig in 20 years of seeing shows.

Albums reviewed include The Menzingers, The Number Twelve Looks Like You, Renounced and Body Hound and trade off comes courtesy of Death By Stereo and Sunny Day Real Estate.

38 – Better Than a Swamp Full of S**t

Remfry somehow managed to secure himself another trip to The Netherlands in as many months, so that he could report back to you about festivities at Roadburn 2019. Space cake may or may not have been consumed. Remfry goes into details about the bands he saw including Cave In, Daughters, Mono and the Jo Quail Quintet, A.A. Williams and more.

Back in the room with Steve, the boys review new albums from The Chemical Brothers, Sunn O))) and Memory of Elephants and trade-off this week comes courtesy of Graham Coxon’s Happiness is Magazines and Down I Go’s You’re Lucky God, That I Can Not Reach You.

16 – Frettin’ About Threatin (feat. Emma Ruth Rundle)

On this week’s episode of Riot Act there is plenty to be worried about. Steve is worried about Remfry’s drinking habit, the state of the world in general, and the sound of the new Muse album which is reviewed alongside the latest albums from Thom Yorke, Can’t Swim and The Ocean. There is respite from the furrowed brows in both The Trade Off, where we exchange superlatives about both Killing Joke’s Absolute Dissent and The Illusion Of Democracy by Reflux, and Remfry sat down for a stress free chat with the excellent Emma Ruth Rundle. But the most pressing concern comes from the bizarre and labyrinthian tale of infamous alt-rock troll Jared Threatin and his “band” Threatin, which is discussed at length… Spoiler, we never do get to the bottom of it.

08 – Sexy Lizard Taylor Swift

It’s an album review bonanza this week on Riot Act, as Stephen and Remfry sit down to cast their critical eye across a string of great albums including Thrice, Therapy? Vennart, Emma Ruth Rundle, The Dirty Nil… oh yeah, and Paul Weller. Remfry also went to see Puppy and Ghost live and gives a view to the latter that differs (somewhat) from the universal praise and acclaim that’s been lavished upon it.

In festival news, we discuss Sleep’s decision to snub Coachella in favour of Roadburn, plus there’s headliner news in the form of Meshuggah playing ArcTanGent (yaaaay!) and Sabaton playing Bloodstock (errrrr … tanks!?). Plus apropos of hardly anything, Steve refers to Taylor Swift as a ‘sexy lizard’.

01 – Romantic Caravans and the 12 Unsung Heroes of 2018

After kicking Riot Act off in style with a podcast filled with some of the biggest names in music in episode 00, this week we cast our net into the furthest reaches of the musical landscape to bring you a dozen of 2018’s most exciting yet unheralded acts. There’s everything from gritty, earnest Americana to mind bogglingly savage tech-metal, and everything in between.

We also chat about our escapades over the last month. We both went to see Pearl Jam, Remfry went to see Palm Reader and Stephen went to a caravan for a few days with his wife. There’s probably a bit too much chat on that if we’re honest…
