S22 – Gill Returns

As part of our 2nd birthday celebrations, we welcome on to Riot Act for the first time former Editor in Chief and OG Metal Hammer Podcast presenter Gill to fill him in on what on earth has been happening in the world of heavy metal in the past 9 years since he moved to Norfolk to be a farmer (or something).

Steve and Remfry go through the main events of the metal calendar from 2011 to present and along the way, give Gill 8 albums to listen to so he has an overview as to what the hell has been happening in this crazy world of heavy metal. Those albums are The Satanist by Behemoth, Statues by Black Peaks, Devil is Fine by Zeal & Ardor, Mareridt by Myrkur, Leather Teeth by Carpenter Brut, Prequelle by Ghost, amo. by Bring Me the Horizon and Underneath by Code Orange.

45 – Heroin For Christmas

This week on Riot Act, Remfry watched some live music in the form of Alexisonfire at Ally Pally and The St. Pierre Snake Invasion at The Black Heart and Steve watched some “live” music at the Bring Me The Horizon day of All Points East festival who brought with them a veritable bunch of other bands who, for the most part, don’t seem to understand the basic concept of live music.

New albums come courtesy of Jane’s Addiction / Porno For Pyros legend Perry Farrell, Pelican, Motanka and Pleaides and in possibly the oddest trade-off so far, Steve listens to BRITN3Y by BRITNEY and Remfry endures Morbid Angel’s Illud Divinum Insanus.

27 – Get a Neck You Sad Little Goat

After nearly coming to blows the Riot Act chaps are both up for a ruck again this week as they review the surprise new covers album by Weezer. Which is either a genuinely brilliant piece of marketing, if you believe Remfry, or a cynical, stinking waste of everyone’s time, according to Steve.

There are also reviews on the new albums from Bring Me The Horizon, Ithaca and Spielbergs, a Trade Off between Cult Leader’s A Patient Man and Favez’s From Lausanne, Switzerland and a whole load of live reviews courtesy of Fucked Up, Boss Keloid, Mastodon and Sick Of It All.

04 – Calculating Infinity: The ArcTanGent 2018 Review

This week, Stephen and Remfry are putting two + two together as they get all mathematically minded whilst reviewing ArcTanGent 2018… well, Remfry does. Unfortunately, Steve didn’t put his workings in the margins and consequently turned up late and left early. What a plonker!

Elsewhere Remfry goes ballistic after seeing The Fever 333’s debut demonstration in London mere hours before the show was recorded and Steve goes stark raving bonkers over the new album from Mantar, as well as giving us a history lesson in art so offensive, even the Nazis disapproved of it!

The boys also review new albums from Jesus Piece and Leeched and verdicts are given on the latest Album Swap; Entombed’s Same Difference and Oceansize’s Effloresce. Plus comment is given on the new single from Sheffield metalcore abandoners Bring Me The Horizon.
